The holiday season is here, and for small business owners like me, it’s one of the busiest—and most exciting—times of the year. As I gear up for the upcoming holiday market, my days have been filled with crafting new candles, designing gift baskets, and perfecting products like reed diffusers, room sprays, and mini candle sets. It’s a flurry of activity that doesn’t seem to stop, even as the lights of the season twinkle all around.
This time of year is magical, but let’s be real—it’s also a bit overwhelming. Between prepping for the market, planning holiday gifts for loved ones, and the general chaos of the season, it’s easy to feel like you’re running on fumes. And while I absolutely love what I do, I’ve learned that taking a step back to breathe is just as important as lighting up someone’s holiday with a thoughtfully crafted candle.
If you’re feeling the pressure of the holiday season too, here are a few simple ways to carve out a moment of calm and focus on your mental health:
1. Create a Cozy Corner
Set up a little sanctuary at home—somewhere with your favorite blanket, a good book, and, of course, a comforting candle. My personal go-to is our 12oz Mystic Pine candle, with its soothing notes of Fraser Fir and frankincense. Light it, sip some tea, and let yourself unwind.
2. Practice Gratitude
Take a moment to reflect on the good things happening in your life. Gratitude journaling is a simple practice that can shift your mindset. Write down three things you’re grateful for each day—big or small. This season, I’m thankful for all the support my small business has received, and for the joy of creating products that bring warmth and relaxation to your homes.
3. Try a 5-Minute Reset
Even when you’re in the thick of things, taking just five minutes to pause can do wonders. Close your eyes, take deep breaths, and visualize a peaceful place. If you’re into aromatherapy, a quick spritz of our upcoming Prosperity room and linen spray can enhance the experience.
4. Make Time for You
With all the holiday events and to-do lists, it’s easy to put yourself last. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Whether it’s a walk outside, a quick yoga session, or just a quiet moment to sip your coffee, prioritize yourself—even if it’s just for 10 minutes.
5. Embrace the Little Joys
Amid the hustle, find joy in the small things: wrapping a present just right, seeing someone’s face light up when they receive a thoughtful gift, or enjoying the glow of a candle on a chilly evening. These moments of peace are the heart of the holiday season.
As much as I thrive on the energy of this time of year, I remind myself—and encourage you—to pause and soak in the magic. The holidays are about giving, but don’t forget to give yourself the gift of rest and mindfulness too.
If you’re stopping by the holiday market this season, I’d love for you to come and say hello. I’ve poured my heart into creating products that not only brighten your home but also offer a moment of peace in your day. Because at the end of the day, you deserve something thoughtful.
Wishing you warmth, joy, and a little extra calm this holiday season!
