The Story Behind Soul Candles and Why Wellness Matters to Me

Starting something new can be a way to heal. For me, pouring candles began in 2020 as a simple act of therapy. Life was full of challenges, and I needed a way to find calm and purpose. Being a mom of three children, two of whom have autism, and caring for my husband recovering from a traumatic brain injury, I found moments of peace in the gentle art of candle making. This is the story of how Soul Candles grew from those quiet moments into a business built on care, wellness, and natural living.

Finding Calm in Candle Making

When the world slowed down in 2020, I needed something to focus on that was both creative and soothing. Pouring candles became that outlet. It was not about making a business at first. It was about therapy, a way to breathe through the stress of daily life.

Candle making gave me a chance to slow down and be present. The process of melting wax, mixing scents, and watching the candles take shape was calming. It was a small act of self-care that helped me manage the demands of motherhood and caregiving.

I started experimenting with natural ingredients because I wanted something safe for my family and the environment. That’s how I began using soy wax and essential oils, avoiding harmful chemicals. It felt good to create something that not only smelled wonderful but was also non-toxic and eco-friendly.

Balancing Family and Caregiving

Being a mom of three is a full-time job on its own. Adding the care of children with autism means every day brings unique challenges and joys. My husband’s recovery from a traumatic brain injury added another layer of responsibility. Through it all, wellness became more than a word—it became a necessity.

Caring for my family taught me the importance of creating a safe, nurturing home environment. I wanted products that supported this goal. That’s why Soul Candles focuses on natural, non-toxic ingredients. I believe what we bring into our homes affects our health and mood.

Wellness is not just about physical health. It’s about mental and emotional balance too. Lighting a candle can be a small ritual that helps create a peaceful space. It’s a moment to pause, breathe, and reset.

Building a Business from the Ground Up

Turning a hobby into a business was not planned. It happened slowly, as friends and family noticed the candles and wanted to buy them. I realized there was a need for products that were both beautiful and safe.

Starting Soul Candles meant learning new skills—marketing, packaging, shipping, and customer service. It was a steep learning curve, but every step was rewarding. I wanted to build something honest and meaningful.

One of the first products I created was my Meditation Candle. It blends lavender and eucalyptus essential oils to help reduce stress and clear the mind. This candle became a favorite for many who needed a moment of calm in their busy lives.

Another product is my mineral soaks that I use in my own bath. I make them with natural ingredients like epsom salt and dead sea salt to soothe and nourish the skin. It’s perfect for those who want to care for their body with gentle, non-toxic products.

Why Wellness Matters to Me

Wellness is personal. For me, it grew from the need to care for my family and myself in the most natural way possible. It’s about creating a home that supports health and happiness.

Choosing non-toxic, sustainable products is a way to protect our planet and our loved ones. It’s a small step that makes a big difference. I want Soul Candles to be a place where conscious consumers can find products that align with their values.

Wellness also means connection. Lighting a candle, taking a bath, or simply taking a moment for yourself can help you feel grounded. These small rituals build a sense of peace and well-being.

One of the reasons I love the Sage & Palo Santo Candle is because it combines beeswax with a blend of sage, palo santo, sandalwood & rosemary. It’s designed to create a warm, comforting atmosphere that invites relaxation and mindfulness.

Creating a Sustainable Future

Sustainability is at the heart of Soul Candles. I carefully select ingredients that are renewable and biodegradable. Packaging is minimal and recyclable. Every choice reflects a commitment to the environment.

Building a business from the ground up means making decisions that align with my values. It’s not always the easiest path, but it’s the right one. I want to offer products that people can trust and feel good about using.

By choosing natural, non-toxic home goods, we reduce exposure to harmful chemicals and support a healthier planet. It’s a simple way to make a positive impact.

A Journey of Healing and Growth

Looking back, I see how candle making helped me through some of the toughest times. It gave me a way to express creativity, find calm, and build something meaningful.
